Most returns must first be authorized before a company will accept returned merchandise and issue a credit to the customer or exchange the item for another. At the time the return is authorized, the company issues a Return Materials Authorization (RMA) number. The RMA provides a unique identifier to each return transaction to track the item through the reverse supply chain.
